Vier vragen aan Alicia Kruk | Mileway

Could you briefly introduce yourself?

My name is Alicia, and I am a member of Mileway’s Portfolio Management Team. My job mainly revolves around preparing Mileway’s quarterly reporting materials, which are shared both internally and externally. I am currently living in London, but I’m originally from Chicago in the U.S. I enjoy swimming, going to brunch, and playing video games in my free time.

Why did you choose to work at Mileway?

As someone that used to work in brokerage, I was always curious about going ‘client-side’. I initially heard about Mileway through an article about their impressive recapitalization in 2022, and then I began hearing more about their scale and market prominence through our M&A team. When I got the opportunity to join Mileway’s Portfolio Management Team, I thought it would be a great place to learn and get that client-side experience I was looking for, as well as being in a fast-paced and dynamic environment.

Could you describe the international dynamics in your role at Mileway?

Mileway is a super international company. Our portfolio spans over ten countries, and we have colleagues working across Europe to help manage our properties. For example, I’m based in London, but our head office is in Amsterdam, so most of my team works in a different office and on a different time zone than me. I am able to visit our head office around once a month to see the rest of my team in person, but most of the time, I’m working in a smaller satellite office in London. I really enjoy having the opportunity to travel to Amsterdam for my work; that’s definitely one of the best perks of the job!

Our team is also very diverse, with people from all over the world collaborating every day. It’s great to hear everyone’s unique perspectives, and it makes for a very creative and dynamic team overall.

What is the best career advice you have ever received?

The best career advice I have ever received is to try as many things as possible and say yes to as many opportunities as you can. Early on in your career, it’s really important to expand your knowledge of the industry and meet new people. There are plenty of opportunities for young professionals to join social networks, go to conferences, and even get involved with various extracurricular activities. Meeting people from other firms and strengthening your bonds with your colleagues is crucial if you want to move up the corporate ladder. My mentor always says that to be successful, you need to put in the hard work while you’re young. If you invest in yourself early, then you can reap some amazing benefits later on in life.
